Heritage
When used in the heritage environment, 3D laser scanning really shines. The ability to reliably capture complex and irregular features rapidly and remotely has clear advantages over traditional survey techniques. When combined with photographic imagery, an in-depth base dataset can be produced.
Once acquired, this base data can be revisited as funds or necessity dictate to extract a number of products such as:
• 2D deliverables (Plans, Sections, Elevations, Topographic Survey)
• 3D models – delivered in DWG, DGN, or Revit (see BIM section) format. 3D topographic surveys.
• RGB (colour) point clouds
• Orthoimages
• Mesh models – Combining scan data with high-resolution digital imagery ideal for 3D printing
• Animations and fly-through
BENEFITS OF 3D LASER SCANNING:
Digital Power
Digitising unique objects with full spatial and colour information.
Accuracy
High detail and high precision.
Visualisations
In addition to the architectural recording and archiving the dataset can also be utilised in the production of marketing and visual material.
Orthophoto
New methodology for orthoimages.
